The minimum eligibility for admission into polytechnics for diploma courses in beauty culture is plus two or equivalent. The courses vary in duration from six months to two years. It goes without saying that the longer a course the more comprehensive it is.

Course content is a comprehensive blend of anatomy, physiology, personal hygiene, a touch of chemistry, nature and types of hair and skin, business management and organisation, handling equipment and so on. Practical training is also given to students. Students generally practice all that they will actually be doing in a parlour.

Fluency in English is a definite asset in this business. Besides, knowledge of the local language and/or a foreign language would also come in handy. Knowledge of a foreign language proves to be of great help if one is employed in a beauty parlour attached to a luxury hotel.
