Care for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is usually quite fine in texture, with a tendency to be rosier than usual. Easily irritated by products and external factors, it's also prone to redness and allergy and may have fine broken veins across the cheeks and nose. There are varying levels of sensitivity. If you feel you can't use any products on your skin without irritating it, cleanse with whole milk and moisturize with a solution of glycerin and rosewater. These should soothe it.

Your skin needs extra-gentle products to keep it healthy. Choose from hypoallergenic ranges that are specially formulated to protect sensitive skin. They're screened for common irritants, such as fragrance, that can cause dryness, itchiness or even an allergic  reaction. Remember to moisturize your skin well as dryness can make sensitive skin even more uncomfortable.  Don't  forget  to  choose  an un-perfumed moisturizer.

Tip : If you  have  particularly sensitive skin, try using an evening primrose oil moisturizer. It's a wonderful natural moisturizer, particularly for dry or very dry skins, as it hydrates, protects and soothes. It  also  improves  the  skin's  overall softness and suppleness. Many sufferers of eczema also find it useful.

Make sure that the make-up you use is hypoallergenic, too, and remove it thoroughly. First use a soothing eye make-up remover. Apply with a cotton wool (cotton ball) pad, then remove every last trace with a clean cotton bud (swab).

Avoid facial washes and soaps on your skin, as these are likely to strip the skin of oil and moisture, which can increase your skin's sensitivity even more. So, instead, choose a  light, hypoallergenic cleansing lotion.

Even the mildest skin freshener can break down the natural protection your delicate skin needs against the elements. So freshen it by simply splashing with warm water instead. This will also remove the final traces of cleanser and eye make-up remover from your skin.

Lightly pat your face dry with a soft towel, taking care not to rub the skin as this could irritate it.

Its essential to keep your skin well moisturized to strengthen  it and provide a barrier against irritants that lead to sensitivity.

Careful skin care will take the sting out of sensitive skin.
