Fruity Beauty

Incorporated in small amounts, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)  have recently become a key ingredient in specialized skincare products. They've become the biggest skincare invention of the 1990s, and their success looks set to continue for many years. Many women find AHAs dramatically improve the condition and look of their skin.Alpha-hydroxy acids, also commonly known as fruit acids, are found in natural  products. These  include  citric  acid from citrus fruit, lactic acid from sour milk, tartaric acid from wine, and malic acid from apples and other fruits.

AHAs work by breaking down the protein bonds that hold together the dead cells on the surface of your skin. They then lift them away and reveal the brighter, plumper cells underneath. This gentle process cleans and clears blocked pores, improves your skin tone and softens the look of fine lines. You should start to see results within a couple  of weeks, although many women report that they see an improvement after only a few days.

Without even realizing the exact reasons for their improved skin, women have used AHAs for centuries. For example, Cleopatra is said to have bathed in sour asses' milk, and ladies of the French court applied wine to their faces to keep their skin smooth, supple and blemish free - both these ancient beauty aids are now known to contain AHAs.

AHA products are best used under your ordinary everyday moisturizer as a treatment  cream. You  should  avoid applying them to the delicate eye and lip areas. If you have very sensitive skin, you may find they're not suitable for you, but some women experience a slight tingling sensation at first anyway, as the product gets to work.

The great news is that AHA products are now becoming more affordable, and not just the preserve of more expensive skincare companies. Many mid-market companies are including the benefits of AHAs in their products, so everyone can give their skin the high-tech treatment it deserves. You can also find AHA products for the hands and body, so you can reap the benefits from head to toe.
